HOLMES

HOLMES aims to develop an innovative interconnected Power-to-Heat (P2H) and Thermal Energy Storage (TES) technology. The central concept is a novel P2H approach capable of inducing uniform heating in heat transfer fluids (HTFs), which serve dual roles in both heat transfer and thermal energy storage.

Electricity can be converted into heat using methods such as resistive heating, which directly heats HTFs. However, this technique often leads to non-uniform temperature distribution, resulting in hot spots that can degrade the HTFs and shorten the lifespan of heating elements. To address these challenges, HOLMES proposes an innovative solution by using nanoparticles (NPs) suspended in various HTFs. This approach aims to demonstrate a novel, more uniform power-to-heat conversion process for these fluids.
